'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Galbraith continues contest with Pep's side.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he recalls the dramatic closing stages of his team's remarkable turnaround triumph against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. That match ended with Galbraith briefly donning a fan's glasses amid the pitch-side pile-on.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith struck the post with a speculative shot from outside the box, and the defender promptly converted the rebound before charging toward the East Stand to celebrate, with the crowd mobbing the players.

Extraordinary Turnaround

This capped an unbelievable turnaround given the team had trailed 2-0 during the second half. Amid the celebrations, there was some unintended consequences. The midfielder recalled, "There was a supporter sort of calling out and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were wondering: 'What's he on about here?' Then we noticed the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're individuals, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Premier League Giants

The victory earned a fourth-round fixture at home against Manchester City on Wednesday, a club Galbraith ran close at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with the London side in February. The athletic midfielder had arguably the best view when Orient took the lead in spectacular fashion, with the attacker's long-range effort from about way out going in via the woodwork and the Stefan Ortega. Many argued that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've awarded it to him for having a go from that far out," says Galbraith, who started in midfield before moving to right flank after they changed shape. That meant competing with the England international, with whom he swapped shirts, and the player was among the opposition who praised the way his former team attacked the game.

Guardiola's System

"Physically they are outstanding but even the fundamentals and basic skills, they can just do it over and over again," Galbraith says. "It appears that they never miss a pass and they understand how to control and slow down a game. You can think you're doing well and then suddenly they will just fizz a pass between defenders without you even noticing. You have to be switched on every second of the game. It takes a strong mentality and focus just to keep pace."

Swansea Move

The club pushed to sign Galbraith in January and beat off competition to secure him in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He established himself as a crowd pleaser across multiple campaigns at Leyton Orient and has swiftly achieved similar status in Wales. At the London club he linked up again with Richie Wellens, who four years ago gave Galbraith his debut prolonged spell in professional games on loan at Doncaster from United. Then came a spell at lower division Salford City, before he departed his boyhood club.

Development Path

"I was perhaps a slightly green going into senior level. I think numerous professionals would say development squad matches is completely distinct. Sometimes it appears possession is exchanged without much intensity. There are limited physical contests. Once you start playing first-team football you have to adapt rapidly."

National Team Success

He has demonstrated that growth for both domestically and internationally, shining for the Green and White Army, who could still reach the World Cup next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has featured in the last several matches, including both legs fixtures against Germany. His former international manager, Galbraith's ex- international manager, paid him the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he handles the football and his ability to spot a killer pass.

Starting Out

This represents quite the ride for the youngster from the Queens Park estate in Glengormley, just outside Belfast, who was raised observing his father, Stuart, also a central player, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Old Trafford Memory

His sole appearance for Manchester United came in Central Asia in 2019, a continental tournament trip to the host city, where they competed on an synthetic surface and the venue ceiling was shut owing to the weather of freezing cold. "That proved to be a long trip and it was cold out there," he says, grinning. "The week before, several youth players and I worked out jointly, so that assisted our preparation. Just to accompany the senior squad and make an appearance at the end was incredible."

Moving On

What was the challenge was it to depart Manchester United, the club he transferred from aged 16? "The decision proved fairly simple, because I arrived at the moment where I realized I wouldn't break through at the top level. I'm hugely grateful for the years at the club but it became apparent where I felt I needed to go my own route, move to a lower level and play professional soccer. Now I'm steadily climbing the ladder."

New Environment

It is the early part of the afternoon at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has an appointment at 5pm: a road rules assessment, another progress toward getting on the road. Before his recent move to his new neighborhood, the mid-twenties player was a frequent passenger in Swansea's so-called team minibus, a small coach driven by academy staff, Pete and Howard, which ferries players to and from training and matches.

"I travel with the Portuguese player, the Brazilian, Malick Yalcouyé – Melker Widell used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's pleasant to spend time with the lads but I'm hoping to be the next one to drive independently and driving. His teammate enjoys practical jokes; he's always up to all sorts."

Public Engagement

When he represented his former club, Galbraith would blend in with fans on London's Central line after beginning his trip at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
